General Manager

The General Manager will oversee all aspects of the Events Venue, Restaurant & Bar, and Tasting Bar to maximize financial performance, guest satisfaction and staff development in accordance with the Company’s mission and established quality standards.   This includes hiring, training, and coaching of the salaried and hourly staff. The General Manager will develop customer service through innovation & strategy, motivation, vision, goal setting, training & development, and progress and performance reviews, to ensure core operations are meeting and exceeding the Company’s high standards. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all aspects of the business operate in accordance with the Co-Founder’s vision and standards
  • Develop and attain business KPIs
  • Work with management team to maintain appropriate cost controls around labor and products (China/glass/silver, paper goods, beverages, etc)
  • Collaborate with management team on establishing promotional campaigns and revenue targets and implement plans to reach and exceed targets
  • Oversee Restaurant, Event & Banquet Manager(s) and all FOH hourly staff ensuring adherence to all company policies including but not limited to: time & attendance, conduct, dress code, cell phones
  • Work with management team to provide ongoing coaching, counselling and development of all Restaurant, Tasting Bar and Event FOH staff members including real-time feedback as well as annual performance reviews
  • Provide leadership and direction to management team to create a superb and consistent customer experience
  • Interact with guests to ensure positive experiences and promptly address any complaints
  • Recruit, manage, and discipline staff in accordance with company policy and procedures
  • Manage labor costs and meet labor budget targets
  • Develop strong communication and line reporting procedures to guide service implementation making improvements or changes where required
  • Prepare financial and other reports for management that clearly explain operational effectiveness, trends and variances.
  • Implement safe working practices
  • Coordinate with Facilities Manager to ensure cleanliness, setup and breakdown of the space for events
  • Maintain a positive, productive, organized, and safe environment for all restaurant and tasting bar employees in line with employee handbook and Company vision
  • Interface with back of house staff to ensure proper delivery and coordination of food service that meets client’s expectations and District Winery’s standards
  • Responsible for maintaining business and staff compliance with Department of Health and ABRA policies
  • Other duties as assigned to meet changing business needs

Who We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree, ideally in Business/Hospitality Management, or a related degree from an accredited university
  • 10+ years of experience as a Director or GM level employee within the F&B Industry
  • 15+ years in hotel or  large restaurant management
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
  • Sales management experience preferred with strong analytical skills and an understanding of sales strategies required to drive sales team performance
  • Flexible schedule including weekends, holidays and nights
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and outgoing
  • Active listener, critical thinker, with solid time management skills
  • Service orientated with the vision and leadership to create memorable experiences
  • Ability to establish productive relationships with people at all levels
  • A positive and adaptable approach to problem solving

  • Must demonstrate proficient knowledge and use of computer and basic programs (e.g., Google Suite including Google Docs & Spreadsheets)

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with clients; must demonstrate professional phone and business etiquette
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of and appreciation of wine strongly preferred
